The ski season in Elbrs ATRC is going on for already more than half a year

The ski season in Elbrus ATRC is going on for already more than half a year: opened in mid-December, the resort's ski slopes are working in June as well. The highest ski area in Europe, descending from the Gara-Bashi station at an altitude of 3,847 meters, and the new ropeway successfully service the ski fans in the summer.

‘All facilities of ski infrastructure work in standard mode, the piste from Gara-Bashi to Mir, where the tourists are ascending using the highest ropeway in Europe, is open. It is snowing almost every night, the snow sealing equipment is operating’, Khisa Bekkaev, the Director General of Elbrus Resort JSC said. According to him, those who come to the slope in the early morning, at the start of the ropeways, will take the greatest pleasure from skiing. ‘In the morning, there is the ‘winter’ snow, after that, it is heated by the sun and the snow cover becomes heavier, so we recommend you to ascend the mountain already from 9 a.m., when the lifts open’, he added.

‘The tourist flow at Elbrus ATRC remains persistently high, even in the summer’, Oleg Gorchev, the Director General of NCR JSC, said. ‘Only in the first quarter 2016, nearly 150 thousand tourists spent their holidays at the resort; compared with the same period last year the number of skiers grew by 65%. At the beginning of July, we will get the aggregated data for April-June, and I am sure that Elbrus will achieve the record number of visits in the ski season this year’, he said.

According to Oleg Gorchev, the growth of tourist arrivals is not only due to the presence of the unique opportunity of skiing in summer as well, as at no other resort in Russia, but also due to the new image of the ski and tourism infrastructure, which was formed on the site over the recent years within its development as a part of the tourism cluster. ‘The resort will become even more interesting, when private investors join the project as residents of the special economic zone. Investing their own funds in the development of the resort and receiving the governmental support in the form of a preferential tax regime and other arrangements, they will be able to develop the possibilities of apres-ski, evening and cognitive leasure. This will be in conjunction with the highest standards of hospitality and service, uniform security requirements and integrated architectural style’, Oleg Gorchev stressed when inviting everyone to evaluate the possibility of skiing in summer.
